Case Study Ironweed
Cadability Inc.,
your full service cad solutions partner has flexed its design muscle aiding
in the creation of "Iron Weed", a high tech one of a kind custom
hand build car. Iron Weed is the brainchild of Bob Kolonia, secretary and
treasurer of Micro Molding, Inc.;
and associate Elwood Hummer, working with Cadability to help develop and
design many of the high technological features in the car. The term "Iron Weed"
stands for the old car one might see at an old farm sitting in the weeds
discarded by everyone but the auto enthusiast. The old car look that Iron
Weed brings forth is just that, a look that a lot of auto manufactures are
trying to recapture. A lot of emphasis in the design of a nostalgia style car
is very popular in today's production and concept cars.
This was a unique project to work
on for Cadability because many items were involving state of the art
technology and methods developed specially for this project. Cadability was
able to cut time and design cost in their 3 dimensional cad capabilities to
insure the product was done correctly the first time without any mistakes.
Cadability provided input in every aspect of the design, but here are a few
of the items that stand out in particular.
Case Study SMI
SMI stands for
Specialty Measurements Inc. (www.smitmc.com) and was founded in 1982. Their specialty
is the measurement of physical properties such as force, acceleration,
velocity, temperature, displacement, etc. In addition to providing a
measurement service for their clients, they also provide a product line of
custom load cells, software packages, data acquisition systems, and select
products for the pharmaceutical industry. Cadability provides many
services for SMI such as product design, analysis, photo rendering and more.
As an example, shown is a project developed specifically for SMI to expedite
the manufacturing of one piece of a sophisticated calibration device. SMI was
able to sit down directly with Cadability and input their design with very
little effort. They then took the information and ran several analyses to
determine the best design parameters, then created dimensioned drawings for
customer approval, and forwarded the necessary CAD files onto the machine
shop to be used in CNC equipment. All, which helped, bring to product to
market faster.
